Van Alen Book Club will discuss Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk’s Istanbul: Memories and the City. A city that has long fascinated urbanists, tourists, and locals alike, these days, Istanbul is also in the news: It is at the center of the Syrian migration crisis and is being reshaped by Prime Minister Erdogan’s aggressive development policies. Pamuk’s portrait of the Turkish capital is a deeply personal one, and will serve as our guide to this extraordinary city.
