On Tuesday, May 9, join Van Alen Book Club for a discussion of The New Odyssey: The Story of the Twenty-First Century Refugee Crisis by Patrick Kingsley. The book takes readers through the cities and landscapes traversed by its lead character, a Syrian refugee seeking asylum in Sweden, whose vivid story is told alongside those of traffickers, aid workers, and bureaucrats. Hint: The protagonist assimilates partially by reading local newspapers in each city he visits.

Registration is open to new and former participants of the Van Alen Book Club, and a casual dinner will be provided.
