Times Square Arts and the Van Alen Institute have selected Brooklyn studio Young Projects to design the 2014 Valentine Heart in Times Square. Known as Match-Maker, the sculpture features 12 viewing points inspired by the astrology chart. Visitors take their place at their respective zodiac sign and peer through interwoven periscopes to see their four most ideal astrological mates. The shape also changes from a perfect heart shape to a tangled form depending on viewpoint.
“In an era of digital communication, our design takes a decidedly analog approach to viscerally connect strangers and reaffirm compatibility between old partners,” Bryan Young, principal of Young Projects, said in a statement.
The firm will collaborate with fabricator Kammetal on the project.
