Memorials for the Future is an ideas competition that will reimagine how we experience memorials and commemoration. The competition is a collaboration between the National Parks Service, the National Capital Planning Commission and Van Alen Institute. Memorials for the Future challenges teams to consider how the permanence of monuments strains against the ever-changing nature of the communities that engage with them. Submissions should examine the traditional forms taken by current monuments and memorials in Washington, DC, and provide new ideas to replace these traditions. Teams are especially encouraged to submit concepts for sites outside of the National Mall.
