Workshop One | Mid-City East

On July 11 in Washington, DC’s Ward 5, we hosted a sensory experience and discussion as part of the initiative, Crossing the Street: Building DC’s Inclusive Future through Creative Placemaking. Local participants gained a better awareness of how the built environment impacts the senses by being led across the chaotic intersection of Florida Avenue & North Capitol Street while blindfolded. Their experience was followed by a workshop to discuss goals in this rapidly changing community. The findings from this workshop are part of a larger placemaking project Van Alen is organizing in DC this fall.
